Carla on NPR's How I Built This with Guy Raz
In early 2021, Guy Raz of NPR’s How I Built This, a podcast examining the stories of “the innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists” behind some of the world’s best-known companies, reached out to Carla for an interview. He had originally discovered a bit of her story on the back of a jovial cassava pasta box in the supermarket in 2020. Carla had always been a big fan of Guy’s and was elated to have the opportunity to speak with him.
Carla and Guy discussed the beginnings of bionaturae and jovial, as well as Carla’s upbringing, the inspirations behind the brands and the struggles she and Rodolfo overcame. After the interview, Carla sent Guy products from Italy, as well as some of her einkorn sourdough starter, which inspired him to try baking an einkorn boule, as you can see in the photo he shared below. Like all of us, Guy was stunned to hear about Carla’s passing. He learned the news just before the interview was set to air, and decided to share it as a celebration of her remarkable life and career.
We invite you to listen to their conversation, which can be found wherever you get your podcasts, or by clicking the link below.
It always seemed that she would be so healthy with einkorn and living in Italy, but maybe the stress of everything wore her system down?:(
Maybe she just did too much and wore her immune system down:(
I feel for her family and pray that they will be ok and carry on her legacy:)?
She was an inspiration to so many, including me.
My deepest condolences to her family and others close to her.
Sending much love.
May God comfort the Bartolucci family in their grieving.
Our daughter, Iliana, loves Jovial pasta. She has very selective tastes and I'm happy to report Jovial einkorn pasta meets her extremely high standards. She eats your cookies as well! We recently started using your olive oil, which has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen pantry.
When I learned that Carla has passed away, I was deeply saddened. I obviously did not know her, but I feel like I do. Her remarkable vision, passion, and energy is responsible for Jovial Foods, and her spirit was with us over the years as we prepared and ate our delicious meals. I just wanted to convey that and to send my heartfelt sympathies to her family.

I was just going through my Einkorn recipe book yesterday and found recipes I haven't made yet. Einkorn and Cassava flour have been a godsend. Many years ago I spent 5 days in the hospital due to commercial wheat and hope Einkorn continues.
God Bless you all~
Sincerely,
Cathleen Banks
Losing someone so young makes their passing all the more difficult. My sincere condolences to her family. She will never leave you; she can be seen in every grain of Einkorn wheat that shimmers in the sun. Peace be with you.
I watched her backing videos so many times. I felt she was a family member.
My sincere condolences to all of her family. God help you all!

I am sorry for your loss; of your founder!
I'm very sorry for the loss of love in your family. I was disheartened to see the passing of your founder, Carla Bartolucci when coming to the site today. She left behind a wonderful legacy and gift for all cooks. Thanks to your family and I hope your family memories help you through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Kim Cox
For many years I searched and searched I felt that there was something more than what the market offered until I found Jovial Food
When I read about Carla and her life I was delighted. I found what I was looking for. Something that made me feel very happy and healthier. Now I can enjoy eating bread, real bread. Thank you Carla for all your work and love so that many of us will be blessed with the fruit of your work.
I never knew Carla personally but I felt like I knew her.

I have been a customer of the Jovial flower and pasta from the start.
Her idea and realized dream made a essential difference in my health.
May her memory be eternal.

For your information, I had produced very flat, sunken bread until I realized that my bread machine had a larger pan than usual and many settings. After some delicious, but poor-looking loaves, I tried doubling the ingredients and using the gluten-free setting. Now I get big, beautiful, but still-dense loaves that friends have praised and gobbled up!
