Carla on NPR's How I Built This with Guy Raz

Needless to say, just like all who knew her or followed her, I was stunned to read of her passing. I was blessed to attend her Einkorn Getaway a couple of years ago with my daughter and her family. She truly loved to share her knowledge with everyone. She will truly be missed. ?

It is just sooo unbelievable to learn of Carlas passing?
It always seemed that she would be so healthy with einkorn and living in Italy, but maybe the stress of everything wore her system down?:(
Maybe she just did too much and wore her immune system down:(
I feel for her family and pray that they will be ok and carry on her legacy:)?

Barbara and I are deeply saddened to hear of Carla's passing. She was a wonderful woman and developed a great staff at Jovial. We thoroughly enjoyed our culinary getaway in 2017 and were looking forward to introducing her to our children at a 2022 getaway. I will always remember her tactful guidance to "try not to get in the way of the women" during an artistic pastry competition, as well as her genuine warmth and kindness in offering to take me to church and lending me her car to retrieve my lost phone in Pisa. Please extend our most heart-felt condolences to Carla's family and the Jovial staff.

I have tears in my eyes and I never even met Carla but felt I've known her all my life. I've been using her flour for many years and have yet to master her bread making. One of my recent life goals was to do a getaway with her and learn the secrets of her talents. I too will surely miss her liveliness. Rest in peace ❣️

I am deeply saddened by Carla's passing. I pray that her family experiences comfort as they hear from her many followers and fans. It was my dream to go on one of the Getaways in Italy so I could meet my baking idol! I have a photo of the villa on my desk. I'd still love to go because there is so much more I want to learn about using Jovial einkorn. I've been baking with it for at least 5 years and get rave reviews from friends and family wanting to know what my secret is for such yummy treats. It's Jovial einkorn of course! And I'm so grateful for Carla's tutorials and recipes. I will think of her every time I bake.

Hi, I'm a loyal customer and I just wanted to pass on my condolences to Carla's family. I've never written a letter to a company that is this personal and of this nature, but I feel compelled to do so because of the role that Jovial has played in my family's life for the past several years. Carla's work has impacted my life since when I was single, once I got married, and now that I've become a father to a beautiful three-year old girl. Jovial Foods gives us foods that are nutritious, while supporting regional farmers, and is a small woman-owned business. Jovial Foods has been the one brand we feel good about eating because there is so much food supply contamination in the United States.

Our daughter, Iliana, loves Jovial pasta. She has very selective tastes and I'm happy to report Jovial einkorn pasta meets her extremely high standards. She eats your cookies as well! We recently started using your olive oil, which has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen pantry.

When I learned that Carla has passed away, I was deeply saddened. I obviously did not know her, but I feel like I do. Her remarkable vision, passion, and energy is responsible for Jovial Foods, and her spirit was with us over the years as we prepared and ate our delicious meals. I just wanted to convey that and to send my heartfelt sympathies to her family.

I was just going through my Einkorn recipe book yesterday and found recipes I haven't made yet. Einkorn and Cassava flour have been a godsend. Many years ago I spent 5 days in the hospital due to commercial wheat and hope Einkorn continues.

What a wonderful lady Carla was. Knowing that, her products are more valuable to me than before.

The company and products created by the Bartolucci family are a true good. I’m sorry for the family’s loss. From what I gather, Carla was a truly remarkable person who worked for the benefit of others.

My sincere condolences to Carla's family on her passing. I had read about her amazing story and about Jovial years ago. I found and tried Jovial gluten free pasta at our local organic grocery store "Jimbo's" in Carlsbad, California USA.I was so delighted in the taste and texture of the pasta and have been enjoying the Jovial gluten free products and beans for quite some time now. They are simply the best! Thank you for all of the delicious Jovial products.

I’m one of the biggest fans of Carlas pasta may she Rest In Peace

Have you every felt close to someone even though you never met them? After receiving Carla’s book, and some sourdough starter from a friend in 2018, I had this experience. There was something about Carla’s candidness in her writing and videos that drew me in. I have a gluten sensitivity and she and her products offered an alternative. Maybe even more important was the baking connection that was once again ignited within me. Baking with einkorn has become a therapy for me. I always dreamed of traveling to Italy for a culinary getaway and meeting Carla and her family to thank them for their dedication and passion to organic farming. Now my prayers go out to them in this time of sadness. She was an inspiration to many!

I just listened to the entire interview and I am very appreciative to understand how Jovial was born. I have been buying your product from it’s conception because it is the single best pasta product in the US market to date! Thank you for selling bulk to the public so that I could buy. I cannot believe the traditional einkorn is not on supermarket shelves! Thankfully, I can buy online. Finally a product that is gut friendly and doesn’t make me suffer! I just learned about Carla and I am in shock. I never met her but felt I've known her. I use her cookbook and have a starter that I have been feeding for years with her flour. I also buy her pastas. Prayers out to her family.

I agree with the other comments. I am so very, very saddened and truly shocked to hear of Carla passing. All of us will miss her beautiful smile. Considering the way this has saddened us, we can only think of the grief her dear family and friends are experiencing. They will always have wonderful memories to hold dear and carry in their heart.

Can you be in love with strained tomatoes. I ? this brand. It makes my recipe spaghetti easier and cuts down on my cooking time. Or just an easy sauce. A wonderful discovery. Your company is great. Thank you for your high standards of quality. Not many companies do these days.

I am stunned and very sad to hear of Carla's passing. In my quest for better health, including as few GMO'd products as possible, I have come to love this company. I will listen to the whole story when I have more time than today, but Carla's promises to not lose her brother's money and to share her profits with employees and do right by her customers are important to me. I plan to keep buying Jovial products and just today noticed cassava pasta, which goes well with my new keto lifestyle. I believe they will please my husband, too. He loves his grains but also loves my healthier einkorn bread. Your company converted me, and I bought a more expensive bread machine to make my einkorn bread effortlessly. Then I discovered, reading more on your site, that I could save money and maintain more nutrition by grinding my own flour. I bought a mill and now purchase wheat berries from you! Thank you all, and Carla posthumously, for providing these delicious, healthy products.

For your information, I had produced very flat, sunken bread until I realized that my bread machine had a larger pan than usual and many settings. After some delicious, but poor-looking loaves, I tried doubling the ingredients and using the gluten-free setting. Now I get big, beautiful, but still-dense loaves that friends have praised and gobbled up!

My heart goes out to everyone who has been touched by Carla’s death. I may not have known Carla personally, but I am deeply saddened by her passing. May her soul RIP.

My heart cries with you my Einkorn friends. How much Carla's flour changed our lives making it possible for us to enjoy lovely whole wheat breads and cakes isn't possible to express in words. It took me three years to master the Miche loaf which blesses my family very much. There are few words to say how much you must be hurting right now without Carla. So I will simply say, Thank you!

How long after the date on the package can I still bake with the einkorn all purpose flour?

Received my starter today . Got it straight off the truck… didn’t even get to my mailbox. Problems…. Frozen as hard as a rock. Hopefully not dead. Spent about 1 hour defrosting it in the 45gm of 100 degree water like your instructions. It did eventually mix with the water then added the flour as instructed. Was a tad messy at that point so didn’t roll it into a ball . Any ideas? So am going to leave it alone for 24 hours like MZ carla said I could. I will let you know how it does or doesn’t progress tomorrow. Fingers crossed in frozen Pennsylvania . Susan Toner
